Enhancing the learning environment
In Canoga Park, Village Charter Academy leased space from Canoga Park Lutheran Church. After 3 years of growth and expansion, they had outgrown their space, but loved the church site. The church contacted HORIZON Development + Entitlement to entitle and coordinate the addition of 4 classrooms to accommodate 144 children, 1,440 sq. of office space, and restrooms.
HORIZON secured the entitlements for the school use in a single-family zone and reduced parking. Community outreach secured support from the Council Office, Neighborhood Council, and local businesses. A public hearing resulted in full project approval with no appeals.
HORIZON stayed with the school to secure the building permits for four modular buildings with all of the necessary electrical and plumbing permits. Vendors, including the modular vendor and all contractors were coordinated using our network of contacts.
Ultimately, HORIZON delivered the new classrooms that were designed to create 2 outdoor learning garden spaces and an existing outdoor space was enhanced by adding shade sails.
